DOES HEALTH REFORM HEAL OR DIVIDE?
At first, Ellen White, prophetess of the Seventh Day Adventist church, was absolutely correct when she spoke on the subject of sin and salvation. She stated that we must keep the Sabbath, sin was transgression of the ten commandment law of God and that only those who ceased from all willful sin would receive eternal life.

However, in 1863 she was given a vision by an angel which required "Health Reform" for all those who were to receive eternal life.  One of the requirements of Health Reform was to stop eating flesh foods - no meat - clean or unclean.

Mrs. White insisted that the gospel now included Health Reform.  "The LORD has given instruction that the Gospel is to be carried forward; and the GOSPEL INCLUDES HEALTH REFORM in all its phases." {TSDF 88.5}

James White* stated specifically that without control of appetite there was no hope of heaven:  "...one of the highest attainments in the Christian life is to control appetite, and that, without this victory, all hope of heaven is vain." Christian Temperance 206

Mrs. White believed that an angel of God had taught her that to control appetite meant that men must stop eating the flesh of dead animals: "The meat diet is the serious question. Shall HUMAN BEINGS live on the flesh of dead animals. The answer from the light GOD HAS GIVEN ME is, No, decidedly NO.  CDF, p. 388

The teaching that man must stop eating clean meats is not found in the Scriptures.  In fact, it is a direct contradiction to what is taught in the Scriptures by word and example in the life of Jesus.  Not only did the Son of God eat meat, he commanded others to eat meat during Passover.

Satan's cunning deception behind the gospel of Health Reform was to get Mrs. White to mistakenly add false doctrine to the wonderful truth of the Sabbath and obedience to God taught by the pioneer Adventists. If the elders of the SDA church had demanded that the gospel of Health Reform be tested against the warning of the apostles it would have been rejected.

Paul warned specifically that there would never be another gospel:

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach ANY OTHER GOSPEL unto you than that which WE have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8

Could it be any clearer?  Mrs. White was taught the gospel of health reform by an angel from heaven - and that gospel was not taught by Jesus or the apostles!

This new gospel was one of Satan's great victories. The gospel of Health Reform has caused irreconcilable division among the commandment keeping people of God for over a hundred years. The sad truth is that many have rejected the Sabbath truth taught by Adventists because they also see the heresy of teaching another gospel.

Not only is the gospel of Health Reform another gospel, it is a resurrection of the "Colossian Heresy" which taught that Jesus alone was not sufficient for salvation. Paul was fighting against the heresy that we could not have the power for victory over sin unless we subjected the body to severe discipline according to the doctrines of men.

Paul said:

COL 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

COL 2:23  These [traditions of men] have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but they are of no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh.

Did Mrs. White teach the Colossian Heresy in that one could not have victory over sin if you ate meat?  Here is what she said - you decide....

"The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, then they would have had the moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character."  T., V. III, p. 485. {HL 74.4}

"...one of the highest attainments in the Christian life is to control appetite, and that, without this victory, all hope of heaven is vain." James White* Christian Temperance 206

If any doubt remains, compare the specific warning of Paul about "taste not, touch not" with the specific teaching of the gospel of Health reform.

Paul:   Colossians  2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, TOUCH NOT; TASTE NOT; handle not;

Mrs. White:

The Lord would bring his people into a position where they WILL NOT TOUCH OR TASTE the flesh of dead animals"  {PUR, November 7, 1901 par. 1}

If we will simply listen to these forewarnings of Paul and trust them without compromise - the gospel of Health Reform is exposed as a counterfeit.

1.  Paul warned against a "doctrines of demons" that forbid eating (clean) meat.

2.  Paul warned against an angel from heaven teaching "any other" gospel.

3.  Paul warned against the teaching that Jesus alone is not sufficient to overcome sin.

Many of my brothers and sisters here on this earth are Adventists and the gospel of Health Reform creates a constant and insurmountable wall of deception between us. I can only hope there are some who have the courage to look at these facts with an open mind. The honest heart that studies the Scriptures will admit that to stop eating clean meat as a requirement for heaven was not taught by Jesus or the apostles. It is a tradition of man.

It is another gospel...

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.... and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

* 1890 Christian Temperance by Mrs. Ellen G. White (pp. 7-162) and Bible Hygiene by Elder James White, 268 pp. overall. Good Health Pub. Co., Battle Creek, Mich.

The preface declares: "This book is not a new presentation . . but is simply a compilation, and in some sense an abstract, of the various writings of Mrs. White upon this subject (health), to which have been added several articles by Elder James White elucidating the same principles . . The work of compilation has been done under the
supervision of Mrs. White, by a committee appointed by her for the purpose; and the manuscript has been carefully examined by her.

"The purpose in the preparation of this volume has been to gather together, in a condensed form, writings which were scattered through various volumes, and some that have never before appeared in print."

The E. G. W. section comprises eighteen chapters and a group of "fragments." She later amplified the principal chapters and made them the body of The Ministry of Healing (1905). Nine chapters, in whole or in part, were incorporated into Counsels on Health (1923) or Fundamentals of Christian Education (1923).

The comment was in CTBH but actually written by JW -> BUT adventists are still not off the hook - EGW did not write it - but she approved it.

Note: "The work of compilation has been done under the supervision of Mrs. White, by a committee appointed by her for the purpose; and the manuscript has been carefully examined by her."

Surely, they cannot suggest that she approved it but did not believe it?  EGW endorsed it and published it with her approval.

I am not a Seventh Day Adventist (and never have been), a natural Jew, or a Catholic. I am simply the least of Christ's brethren who love Him and keep His Commandments.
