GumboHighland's VikingSheepArt
From our own Sheep to Entirely Hand-made Finished Products, Entirely on the farm - NO mill processing
We welcome visits to the farm to see and feel all we have to offer.
Thank you for your patience as I come up with a less time-consuming system for selling yarn.
I am greatly in need of a decrease in time spent on posting yarn for sale online. Yarn making in itself is an all-
consuming project. I mainly sell the natural colors my sheep supply. I mostly spin in-the-lock, in-the-grease for
a naturally variegated-looking yarn. Most is a worsted-to-bulky weight (8-9wpi) & has 35-55+yds/ounce. I use mostly US knitting needle sizes 8-10 and US crochet hooks G-I.
Most is not lumpy bumpy. While each skein is totally unique, the colors can be grouped into shade categories.
Texture of the yarn is a bigger issue than color, ie more specificity is required.
This yarn is for those who appreciate nature with it's safe element of surprise, ie those who like totally unique, one-of-a-kind items that is guaranteed to have natural beauty. When people marvel at my yarn, I assure them, the sheep produced it; I only put it together.
I truly love working with this yarn, and that is why I have stayed with producing it entirely by hand for nearly 20 years. I am happy to somewhat limit what I make & sell for yarn, but I do want continue making some available to those who truly appreciate truly "organic" stuff, and I do always have more than I can get used up myself. There is definitely a limit to the supply of what can be done by hand, period, no mass-production.

Wraps per inch (WPI)
One way of determining the weight of an unknown yarn is to use the wrapping method.
Wrap the yarn around a large needle or a ruler. Make sure the yarn lies flat. Push the yarn together so there are no gaps between wraps. Smooth
it out so it is neither too loose nor too tight. Measure the number of wraps per inch (2.5 cm). For better accuracy, measure the wraps at the
centre of your yarn sample.

International yarn weight conversion
Different terminology is used in different countries, and it is often difficult to work out which yarn weight should be used for a non-native pattern.
