From Prom Hair Updos to Long, Loose Curls:
    Easy Hair Styles for Prom

Prom is just around the corner. You found the perfect prom dress, the right shoes for prom and dazzling jewelry - but now it's time to think about your hair. Will you wear it up or will you wear it down for your prom? Sophisticated or casual? There really is no right or wrong way to wear your hair for prom - you just need to find a hair style that makes you look fabulous, feel confident and compliments your prom dress. Just take a look at some of these easy hair styles for prom.

Updos
When you say "prom," many people automatically picture girls with up dos. If you are a person who is comfortable wearing an updo, go for it. There are several types of updos you can experiment with, but remember - it's easier to put up hair that hasn't been freshly washed. If you do wash your hair the day of prom, make sure you have several hours before you need to style it. And don't be afraid to add special details such as flowers, jeweled pins or a headband. More complicated styles may require you to see a professional stylist.

  1. Half Up/Half Down

Maybe you can't quite decide between wearing your hair up or down. That's alright - this style is for you! In fact, you can wear this style with long hair or shorter hair. You can simply pull the top into a high ponytail and then curl the ends of the ponytail and pin them artfully around the top of your head. Add some curls to the "down" hair, and you're all set. Don't forget the hairspray!

  2.
  3. Casual Updo
If the half up/half down isn't quite elegant enough for your taste, the next step is a casual updo. This involves pulling all of your hair back, except for some face-framing tendrils and bangs, if you have them. Start by putting your hair in a ponytail (high or low, your choice), securing it with an elastic, and then twisting it and discretely pinning random pieces to your head. If you have bangs, create a dramatic side part and sweep them to one side. This option leads to some very unique and beautiful results.

  4.
  5. Formal Updo
If the casual updo still isn't quite what you had in mind, you can go more formal still. The basic premise is the same as the casual updo, above, but your do not leave any tendrils or face-framing pieces of hair out of the ponytail. You will need to use gel and hairpins to keep your style looking sleek. Be sure to use plenty of hairspray as well.

Down Dos
There is no rule that says you have to wear your hair up for prom. If you're more comfortable with it down, that's perfectly acceptable. However, there are still ways you can experiment with your hair look for your special prom night.

  1. Short Hair
Make your short hair look prom ready by curling it in spirals. To do this, use a small-barrel curling iron, and hold it vertically while curling your hair. Once all of your hair is curled, don't brush or comb through it - simply use hairspray. You can also tuck in flowers, jeweled pins or a thin headband for extra style.

  2. Long Hair
If you have long hair and usually wear it straight, opt for some curls for prom. Loose curls are easily achieved with a large-barrel curling iron or hot rollers. Once again, you can use jeweled pins, flowers or headbands to add extra pizazz.

Extras
Every hair style can benefit from the addition extras such as beads, jeweled pins, headbands or flowers. Don't be afraid to experiment to see if any of these extra touches will enhance your prom hair style.

Whether you wear your hair up or down for prom, it's easy to achieve elegant looks that make you look spectacular on your special prom night - just be sure to practice styling your hair beforehand, and leave plenty of time on the big day to get it just right. Prom night will be magic!
