All Dressed Up: Baby Shower Themes & Decorating Ideas
Are you throwing a baby shower but aren't sure what kind of baby shower theme or baby shower decorations to use? You're not alone! Use the ideas below as they are or just to kick-start your own creative ideas!
When it comes to planning a baby shower, there are literally hundreds of themes you can choose from. Here are a few of our favorites to get you started.
Think Pink
Do you already know that the mom-to-be is having a girl? Go with a pink theme! Have pink cake, pink balloons, pink punch, pink streamers, pink plates, pink napkins...you get the idea. This also works for baby boys - just change the color to blue!
"Bear" Necessities
Have all of the guests bring necessities such as diapers, thermometer, onesies, burp cloths, and diaper rash cream, and then decorate with bears of all kinds. After the games, you can hand out "necessities" such as dish towels or nice soaps.
Pitter Patter
Who can resist little tiny baby feet? Baby footprint decorations are fairly easy to find, and you can decorate with lots of baby booties! You can make a baby sock bouquet to use as a centerpiece and then give it to the mother-to-be, along with a baby foot casting kit for her new arrival.
A Star is Born
Celebrate the upcoming birth of a new little star by decorating with stars and moons, with glitter for stardust. You can have each attendee write some stellar parenting advice on paper stars!
Baby Animals
Who doesn't love baby animals? You can decorate with stuffed animals, serve pigs in a blanket, and play a baby animal matching game.
Bookworm
Ask each shower guest to bring a book for the baby. You can also decorate with books or with the characters from beloved childhood stories.
Diapers, Diapers, Diapers
As any new mom can attest, babies go through endless amounts of diapers. Ask each guest to bring diapers (either assign them a size to bring or let them choose on their own), and also create a basket with wipes, lotions and diaper rash creams. You can even make a diaper cake to use as a centerpiece.
Baby Shower
Yes, they're all baby showers, but this means you should decorate with umbrellas turned upside down and filled with balloons and streamers. And to stick with the "shower" theme, you can create a gift basket filled with things baby will need for its bath: towels, washcloths, water testers, baby shampoo, baby lotion, etc. This is especially cute for a springtime baby shower.
Baby Clothesline
Use clothespins to attach baby items (onesies, burp cloths, baby socks, bibs, etc) to a clothesline and string it across the room. Invite attendees to write down their "laundry list" of parenting advice and attach it to the clothesline.
Other Ideas
Of course there are many other ideas and decorating schemes you can use: storks, balloon bouquets, wooden blocks, fairy tale characters - or incorporate your own ideas into the themes listed above. Baby showers are a perfect time to let your inner child shine!
No matter what theme or decorating scheme you choose, just approach it with fun and enthusiasm, and it's sure to be a hit!
