05/17/2012 Politics Circa 2012
It's May and I may already be sick of all the political punditry about the coming Presidential election. The media seems to be just as fascinated as Congress. We have Neoconservatives vs. Progressive Liberals. Where even the simplest issues are a scandal and no one is willing to give the least bit of credit to either side.
05/17/2012 So, What Are Our Presidential Choices?
The presidential race is now in full swing, and we didn't even have to wait for the party conventions which normally denote the start of the official race. Then again, I don't think anyone is really surprised the race would be between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. Obama is the unchallenged incumbent, and Romney has been begging for this opportunity ever since he lost to John McCain in 2008.
05/17/2012 The Emperor's New Clothes - The 2012 Edition
Many years ago there was a President so exceedingly fond of hyperbole that he spent all his money on political spin. He cared nothing about preparing a balanced budget, or tending to matters of state, except to campaign for his next election. He had a catch-phrase for every hour of the day, and instead of saying, as one might, about any other ruler, "The King is in council," here they always said, "The President is on the campaign trail."
05/17/2012 The Politics of Capitulation
Capitulate: to surrender unconditionally or on stipulated terms; to give up resistance. When it comes to surrender, just the thought of it is chilling to a political leader on the campaign trail. Campaigns are the closest thing to war most operatives and candidates will ever experience and for the majority, they approach it with the same gusto as if their lives were on-the-line-which is essentially true in their world, as success portends a future in the limelight and failure means ending up with a briefcase full of unrealized dreams and little else.
05/17/2012 Relentlessly Searching For The Facts
In politics, a fact can be an elusive thing. A Washington Post column, "The Fact Checker," is an island of truth in an ocean of punditry, spin and whoppers.
