McCain was educated in Alexandria, Virginia and then at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. He went on to serve as a naval aviator, attaining the rank of Captain during his 22 years of service. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona's 1st District in 1982 and then to the U.S. Senate in 1986. He is now in his fourth term as senator.
