What's a birthday party without gifts? And it's not just kids who love gifts - adults love them, too! If you'll be attending a party for a grownup and aren't sure what to get, read on for some ideas to get you started.

Depending on the person and the birthday (30th, 40th, 50th), a humorous gift may be in order. Many party supply stores have "Over the Hill" gifts such as "memory pills," faux reading glasses, canes, and special t-shirts, buttons and hats. You can also give 30 (or 40 or 50) of something, such as M&Ms, chocolates, jelly beans, etc. Before purchasing a humorous gift, make sure you know that the recipient won't be offended.

Sometimes a more thoughtful gift may be in order. Gift cards to restaurants, movie theaters and the like are always appreciated, but so is something homemade, whether it be baked goods, a scrapbook or a photo album. If you know the birthday person quite well, you may be able to pull off a practical gift. Of course, you can always choose a gift card to the birthday person's favorite store so they can choose their own gift.

Most people have a hobby or two, and if that's the case with the birthday person, you're in luck! From cooking, scuba or golf lessons to a favorite book, movie or CD, hobbies open up a whole new world in the gift-giving arena. For instance, gardeners would love to receive a plant or book on gardening, while motorcycle enthusiasts may adore that new Harley-Davidson coffee table book.
