I'm Gary. I was on the hook - to host my relatives for a sort of family reunion over the Christmas holidays. Part of me looked forward to it, but another dreaded all the decisions and work involved.
Then I realized I could use KeepandShare as an efficient tool to get everybody pitching in. First, I created a document titled "Christmas Dinner," and wrote most of the menu out (e.g., Turkey and stuffing, grandma's cranberry dish...). I used KeepandShare's share feature to give my relatives access. Then I let my relatives know that they should go online and each pick one side dish to bring, and if they had other ideas or contributions, to note them down.
The beauty of it is that whenever a relative visited the document they could see what others had already volunteered for - like passing a sign up sheet around the room in a PTA meeting for next week's potluck meal, but in this case everyone can sign up for their contributions using the power of the internet. Heaven knows you don't want 3 relatives all bringing string beans and nobody doing the yams...
This gave me a great idea - the whole extended family of 19 always has a tough time around the present giving. I created another document, "Christmas Wish List," listing all 19 names. Next to my name I wrote 5 or 6 gift ideas for myself. I told folks to write their own wish list next to their names. Whenever someone bought a gift they marked it on the list with the strikeout font so others would know that gift idea was spoken for.
