Private - Public Calendar Details
Private-Public Details
What if you want to have two versions of your details? One version for you, and one version for viewers of your calendar?
No problem, just place a vertical bar character "|" in the middle of your square-bracketed hidden details. You and anyone else with edit rights will see the left side detail text, which we'll call the 'private details'.
But when the calendar is viewed by people who do not have edit rights (e.g., public viewers), then these viewers are shown only the text on the right side of the bar, which we'll call the 'public details'.
Watch this video on Private - Public Calendar Details:
An example will make it clear. The exact form is:
[ left-side text | right-side text ]
If a pop up calendar entry has this text entered:
12:00-1:00 [ Lucy Jones, 415-346-6544, jones@hotmail.com | booked ]
it will appear onscreen to viewers as:
12:00-1:00 booked
Private | Public Details is a great way to maintain public schedules with some information 'hidden'.
For instance, a chiropractic office can maintain an appointment schedule on their public website showing which time slots are open and which are booked. Several office staff (those with edit rights to the calendar) can see the names and contact information for their clients, even though the public never sees this sensitive information.
Tip - Easy way to Test & Experiment: share one of your calendars with the 'Public' share group (do not check the edit box). Then copy in some of the sample text from above or type in your own samples of text in "[ ]". Copy the URL of your public calendar and paste it into a different browser's address bar (e.g., use Firefox if you were using IE 8) - so you are viewing the calendar as the public would see it. Edit the text in the first browser window. Then go to the second browser window with the public view and hit refresh.
