Tables: Formatting Tables

Once you have created a table in your document, you can format your table by right-clicking (Mac: ctrl-click) over the table, which brings up the Table Properties dialog:

Go to this great page of visual table formatting examples to see the following options being changed.

Use Table Width to define how wide your overall table will be. You can define it to be a percentage of the width of the browser window it is displayed in, e.g., 80% or 100%. Or you can choose to define it to be a fixed width up to 999 pixels wide by choosing the 'px' setting in Table width.

Border Width to make the borders more visible between cells by choosing settings larger than "0px" (px means pixel).

Cell Padding inserts additional white space inside each box or 'cell' of the table - the padding surrounds your text in the cell.

Cell Spacing places space between the individual cells within a table.

Background & Border Color control the background & border colors of the overall table.

Create a couple of test tables and play around with these settings - it's fun to see what they do!

You can also right click over an individual cell and bring up the Cell Properties dialog, giving you control over the background color, alignment & other properties of individual cells:

(formatting tables; table spacing; table color; background color; border color; cell properties; cell formatting; cell width; alignment; table alignment)
