Bookmark Application Overview

If you do not see the 'Bookmark' tab, turn the Bookmark tab on.

Are Bookmarks Like Favorites In My Browser?

Yes, Bookmarks in KeepandShare are like browser favorites. Bookmarks can:

  • Remember a web page by maintaining a link (url) to that web page.
  • Have a name that is different from the link.
  • Be organized into folders.

However, Bookmarks in KeepandShare have several advantages that go well beyond browser bookmarks:

  • KeepandShare Bookmarks can be accessed from any Internet-connected PC.
  • Bookmarks can be shared with your friends.
  • When your PC dies or is replaced, you won't lose your bookmarks or have troublesome migration issues.
  • It's easy to organize your bookmarks into as many folders as you like.

Creating A Bookmark

To create a new Bookmark, first switch to the Bookmark application by clicking on the gray Bookmark tab, then:

  1. Click on the "New Bookmark" command, or, better yet, click on a folder name and click on the small New Bookmark command that appears right under the folder name.
  2. Specify a name, such as "Best Kalamazoo weather info", and a Link, such as "www.weather.com/MI/kalamazoo" and then give a save command.
  3. Sharing: You also have the option of setting the "Sharing Control" at this point - if you put a friend's account name into the account name box, then this friend will be able to access your bookmark whenever they Visit you.
  4. Bookmark Folders: When a bookmark is saved it is saved in the folder indicated in the folder pull-down titled 'Save in this folder' in the top left corner of the editing box.

To change the folder a bookmark is stored in, select the another folder name from the folder pull-down list:

Organizing And Finding Bookmarks

Bookmarks can be organized and found using the same commands as documents, to dos and other KeepandShare information.

Use folders to organize your bookmarks. Create new folders by clicking on the "New Folder" command.

Use the Show Bar to find bookmarks and control the display of your bookmarks. You can click on "all folders" to display all folders and all their contents. Use gold stars to mark especially favorite bookmarks. Use the search box to type in some text and find all matching bookmarks.

The Easiest Way to Paste a URL Into a Bookmark

The easiest way to get an accurate Link (URL) that works is to first use a browser window to browse to the web page you want to remember as a bookmark.

Once you are at the web page, you can then use one of these two methods to copy the Link from the browser's "Address" bar:

  1. You can drag and drop the link by placing your mouse over the icon at the left end of the address bar, click and drag the mouse cursor until it's over KeepandShare's link field, then release the mouse button. The entire link is copied from the browser's address bar to KeepandShare's link field.
  2. Or you can use the copy command: point another browser window at the web page you want to refer to, then right click your mouse in the address bar of the browser. Then select copy from the menu choice. Then go to KeepandShare and click to place the cursor in the Link field, and right click your mouse, and select paste from the menu choice

What are Hyperlinks? Hyperlinks (or URLs or Web links) are the addresses of web pages. When one clicks on a link, the browser then displays the page the hyperlink points to. For example, clicking on http://www.KeepandShare.com will take to you KeepandShare's home page. Hyperlinks are one of the most useful features of the internet.

Sharing Bookmarks

Use the Sharing Control to give permission for others to view your bookmark or folder.  You can also set sharing at the folder level so all bookmarks in one folder are shared with the same people.
