Embed Folders
KeepandShare's 'File' application allows you to organize files inside of folders. The files can be web word processing documents or any kind of PC or Mac file that you upload, such as spreadsheets, PDF, .doc or any other kind of file. KeepandShare folders can be easily 'included' in another other web page on any website (here's how to upload files into a folder).
Why Embed a KeepandShare Folder into a Web Page
Editing and updating web pages can require sophisticated web development tools, HTML editors, FTP programs and technical expertise. It gets even harder if you want to host a collection of files and allow your site visitors to download / view this collection of files. You may also need the collection to be periodically updated -- removing, replacing or adding files to the collection.
By using a KeepandShare folder to host your file collection on your web page, you can add a file collection to your web page in seconds and you can easily update the collection by using your KeepandShare account to maintain the folder. You can allow non-technical staff to maintain the KeepandShare folder. Non-technical users can upload additional files, delete files, rename files etc. -- all by logging into the KeepandShare account that hosts the folder. All folder changes are instantly reflected in all web pages that embed the KeepandShare folder.
How to Embed a Folder
- Create a folder and set the folder's sharing to be Public.
- Click on the folder name in the left column so you are viewing the folder.
- At the bottom of the screen, below all the folder's contents, are some gray Folder Link boxes.
- Click in the gray 'Embed' box, and copy to your clipboard.
- Paste from your clipboard into the HTML source for your web page (what you paste should look like the sample folder embed code just below).
- Save your web page and view it in a browser in which you are not signed into your KeepandShare account.
- Don't forget - if you have a free account, you must have a credit link present on the same page.

Click on any of the file names in the above file folder. Notice that both web word processing and other uploaded file types can all coexist in a folder.
Optional Parameters for Folder Embedding
You can add these optional parameters to the URL in your embed folder code to customize the appearance of your embedded folder:
- &da=y - 'Direct Access' default is 'y' for immediate download and viewing of files. For instance, with da=y, when a user clicks on a file in your embedded folder, the file will be immediately downloaded (or in case of PDF files the PDF will be immediately opened in the browser as a new tab). If you set "&da=n" then the user is first prompted with a screen that shows them a download button.
- &df=n - 'Display Folder Name' default is 'y'; if you include this parameter as "&df=n" then the folder name will not be displayed.
- &dd=y - 'Display Download Link' - Premium paid accounts can provide a 'Download Folder' command that downloads the entire folder as a ZIP file. This parameter defaults to 'n' meaning the download link is not displayed even if your account is Premium. Include this parameter as "&dd=y" to force the Download Folder command to appear.
- &star=y - 'Show Only Starred Files' - only publicly shared files that have the gold star will be displayed (this parameter is 'sticky' through a browser session, so if you want to remove its effect it you can set it to '&star=n').
- &date=y - 'Show Files in Date Order ' - the files are listed by date, not alphabetical order.
The following sample code has the "&df=n" parameter added:
And here is the live sample of the "&df=n" parameter (notice there is no folder name displayed):
The following sample code has the "&dd=y" parameter added (notice the 'Download Folder' command is displayed):
And here is the live sample of the "&dd=y" parameter. See the blue 'Download Folder' command to the right of the folder name. Remember, this command only appears if the folder is in a paid subscription account. Click Download Folder to download the entire folder as a ZIP file.
Tips
- Place your embed code inside of <div> tags and you can apply CSS styling to the <div>.
Required 'Credit Links'
We can offer you a free calendar and other embeddables because we keep our marketing costs low by gaining new customers through referrals and 'word-of-mouth' advertising. As you know, on the web, links are the equivalent of 'word-of-mouth'.
To continue to keep our marketing costs low, if you have a free KeepandShare account, our Terms of Service require that you must include a single, short 'credit link' on the home page of the website on which you embed any KeepandShare component.
Here is a sample credit link:
Credit links point to a KeepandShare page and include a specific anchor text that you should not change. The credit link is included in your embed code. Initially the credit link will appear just below your embedded component but you are required to cut and paste the credit link so it appears on your website's home page - so long as the credit link is human readable.
