Overview of Visiting

Whenever you access information from other users' KeepandShare accounts you are said to be visiting their account. Visiting and Sharing are two sides of one coin: when you visit friends' accounts you are viewing information they have shared with you.

Visiting is built around several simple concepts. The Friends List is a list of KeepandShare user names that is the universe of which users you want to be able to visit (and also to share information with). Whenever your friends update their information that they've shared with you, you automatically receive notifications in your dashboard - meaning you don't have to constantly go looking for new information. Normally you will only receive notifications on information they have shared with you by name, but if you also want to be notified of any of their new 'public' shares, you can subscribe to their account.

There are several ways you can navigate to find information to visit:

  • Click on the gray "Visit" tab and then click on the blue user name from the Friends List. You are then taken to that user's share page. Once you are at the share page you can use the links at the bottom to navigate to any information shared with you.
  • Click on a link in the Fresh Shares or Fresh Comments section of your dashboard and you will be taken directly to that fresh information.
  • You can be emailed a link to a specific page of shared information (a document, a to do item, a discussion, etc.). If you click on this link you will be taken straight to that page.
  • Many search engines will index your friends' share pages, so its possible you might find a Google or Yahoo search results pointing to a friend's share page.

Note: when you visit someone you do not have to be logged in to KeepandShare to view any public information they are sharing, as this is information they are sharing openly on the world wide web. But you must log in to KeepandShare before you will be granted access to protected information they have explicitly shared with you by name - this is to validate your identity and protect their information.
