How Secure Is My Information in KeepandShare?

Rest assured that your information in KeepandShare is very secure from unauthorized access by anyone but your account, more secure, in fact, than in most business or organizational computing enviroment.

Many people wonder, for instance, if a web-based system like KeepandShare is more secure, or less secure than keeping information physically located right in their home or business. While we all feel comfortable with information on computers in our building (after all, the front door does have a lock on it), the reality is that a modern web-based system such as KeepandShare provide a much higher level of data security than most organizations can achieve in their local computing environment:

  1. All user information in KeepandShare is very secure, much more secure than on typical home, school or business PCs, networks, or servers.  In a typical school network & server environment the system can be compromised by hackers attacking any PC on the network, attacking the server, or gaining physical access to the server.
  2. User information in KeepandShare has a very high standard of physical security.  It resides on our servers in a  large, highly secure data center with professional security guards and locking systems.  Our servers are themselves in locked racks.  No one is ever permitted to be in the server rack area by themselves.  The server center is quite earthquake proof, fire proof, and has redundant telecommunications connections and onsite electric generators.
  3. KeepandShare server data is backed up off site (out of state) every night.  Typical network and server backup systems often have gaps or flaws in their implementation (e.g., backup tapes may be made but are not always taken off site, or are lost offsite, or are not made at all).
  4. KeepandShare policy is that no KeepandShare staff nor contractors are ever permitted to see any user data.  Period.
  5. KeepandShare servers are highly security optimized.
