Embed Tables in Web Pages

Why Embed Tables

The KeepandShare 'Table' online database application creates and manages web-based 'tables' with dozens or thousands of rows of information. Use tables to manage lists and 'flat files' of all kinds such as membership rosters, check lists, small 'databases', project data, expense logs, and more.

Easily import & export 'CSV' files to exchange information between KeepandShare tables and popular programs such as Excel and Filemaker.

Put all your website's table-oriented information into KeepandShare tables and you can give edit access to non-technical users. They can edit and update the tables by logging directly into KeepandShare. Whenever they update the online table, the changes are instantly reflected wherever you have embedded that table.

How to Embed

To embed, first, set your table document sharing to the 'Public' share group - since you are embedding onto your public website, your embedded information should be publicly viewable - otherwise your web visitors will be prompted to log into KeepandShare to view your information. (Don't forget to click 'Save & Exit' after setting the sharing to be Public)

Second, copy the 'Embed code' we provide you in a gray box:

  1. View the table you wish to embed.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the table.
  3. At the bottom, click the link titled 'Link & Embed' (it should be to the right of the green 'Add Comment' button).
  4. Copy the embed code out of the gray box titled 'Embed' (you cannot see much of the code, but it is in the tiny box; click in the box and copy to your clipboard).

Third, modify the width and height parameters in the code you pasted, so your iFrame fits nicely on your page. For instance, where you see width="900" change the "900" to 800 to make the iFrame narrower.

Sample

Here is a sample embed code:

The above code is actually embedded right here, so you can see how easy it is to add a table of information to your website. Click in the table to select a row and then cursor down and up to scroll.

Some changes you can make to the embed code:

  • Edit the numeric values of the 'width' and 'height' parameters to control the size of the iframe.
  • If 'frameborder="0"', the iframe will not show a border; change it to 'frameborder="1"' if you want the iframe to show a border.
  • Change the value of the 'scrolling' parameter to 'yes' if you want the iframe to have it's own scroll bars. These are usually unnecessary since the table itself has its own scroll bars.

Customize Colors

Remember that the owner of the account containing the table can edit the table structure and colors, so all the colors used in the table can be customized.

Tips

Where to Paste the Embed Code: paste the copied embed code into the page of your site on which you want the table to appear. Be sure to paste it into the 'HTML' tab or view of your site editor.
Embedding works by placing the referenced KeepandShare page inside of an HTML "iFrame". You will have to paste the embed code into the HTML source code of the hosting web page.

Required 'Credit Links'

We can offer you a free calendar and other embeddables because we keep our marketing costs low by gaining new customers through referrals and 'word-of-mouth' advertising. As you know, on the web, links are the equivalent of 'word-of-mouth'.

To continue to keep our marketing costs low, if you have a free KeepandShare account, our Terms of Service require that you must include a single, short 'credit link' on the home page of the website on which you embed any KeepandShare component.

Here is a sample credit link:

Printable Calendar

Credit links point to a KeepandShare page and include a specific anchor text that you should not change. The credit link is included in your embed code. Initially the credit link will appear just below your embedded component but you are required to cut and paste the credit link so it appears on your website's home page - so long as the credit link is human readable. Paid Accounts Do Not Need Credit Links: if you upgrade your account, you are not required to place a credit link on your home page. You don't have to decide right now whether you want a paid or free account - go ahead and implement the embedded calendars on your web pages. You can decide to upgrade your account at any time.
