How Do I Upload a Word Processing Document?

You must first decide if you want to upload the document in its native file format (e.g., keep it a ".doc" file for Microsoft Word), or, more commonly, if you want to convert the PC-based word processing file into KeepandShare's native word processor.

The advantage of using KeepandShare's word processor is you'll be able to view and edit your document in KeepandShare -i.e., use any internet-connect browser. You'll still have powerful formatting and editing capabilities.

The advantage of keeping the document in its native file format is you won't lose any advanced formatting information if you then later return the file to a PC for further editing.

To upload a document while preserving its native file format just go to KeepandShare's Document application and choose the "Upload Files" command. This will allow you to upload the file as a stored file in KeepandShare. You won't be able to view or edit it but it will be secure and can be downloaded again at any time.

To upload a document into KeepandShare's native word processor, just use standard clipboard Copy and Paste commands. Follow these steps:

  1. Open up your word processor document in Windows or the MacIntosh, select what you want to copy, and then copy it (typically by selecting "copy" under the "Edit" pull down menu)
  2. Create a new or open an existing KeepandShare document so you see the open editor window
  3. Click on one of the three following Paste icons:

(note that the leftmost of these icons do not appear in the Firefox browser but can still be accessed using the Ctrl-V key combination in Firefox)

The leftmost clipboard icon is the same as the Ctrl-V paste command - it will paste the copied text without striping any formatting.

The middle clipboard icon will strip out all formatting and paste the text in as plain 'ascii' text. This will give you the greatest control over applying subsequent formatting within KeepandShare.

The right clipboard icon is optimized for giving you control over pasting text in from Microsoft Word.

If you are pasting from Microsoft Word, we strongly encourage you to use this paste icon, which cleans the Word text of confusing HTML formatting instructions:
