Motorcycle & Off-Road Insurance
If you drive a motorcycle or off-road vehicle, you may not need insurance. State laws differ on whether or not insurance is needed, and if so, how much is required for motorcycles and off-road vehicles. However, it is a good idea to have at least some kind of insurance, even if you're not required to. You should check your state laws regarding motorcycle and off-road vehicle insurance requirements, including other requirements, such as helmet use and eye protection.
Like car insurance, motorcycle and off-road insurers look at various factors to determine what your premium will be:
- The type of motorcycle you have (Harley vs. dirt bike)
- Your driving record
- How often you drive the vehicle (to work everyday or only seasonally)
- Your age (if you're under 25 you'll pay a lot more)
- Whether or not the vehicle is kept in a safe & secure location
- How many miles you drive yearly
- Any special training you may have had (motorcycle safety classes, etc.).
As with auto insurance, be sure to compare several quotes before making a decision.
