Wedding Ceremony and Reception Music - Making Sweet Music for Less
Wedding Ceremony and Reception Music:
Making Sweet Music for Less
Your special day needs special music, both for the ceremony and the reception. The right music adds drama, expresses emotion, and keeps the festivities moving...and can also be expensive. Be sure to explore all of your options where your wedding and reception music is concerned, and you'll be surprised by how much you can save.
Ceremony Music
There are a lot of options available to you when it comes to choosing music for your wedding ceremony. Start by checking to see if your wedding venue has any musicians they regularly use. Using these musicians can be beneficial for a couple of reasons. First, the musicians are very familiar with the clergyman who is conducting your wedding and can easily pick up on the appropriate cues. This means the music will begin when it is supposed to. Second, the musicians associated with your venue may charge considerably less than outside musicians.
The next thing you can do is have a wedding ceremony CD made. There are websites that allow you to create a custom mix of the songs you want to have played during your ceremony. The cost is minimal, and all you have to do is find someone to be responsible for starting the CD player. Just be sure the "music player" knows exactly when to begin each song, and has ample time to practice ahead of time.
Do you know anyone who plays the piano, flute, clarinet or harp (and plays it well)? Usually these people are more than willing to provide the music for your ceremony, provided they have ample time to practice. You can also find a soloist this way. If you don't know any musically gifted people, try checking around at local music schools. The cost savings is worth doing a little leg work.
Reception Music
We've all heard the stories (good and bad) about wedding reception bands. Hiring a band for your reception may have been your initial thought, but if you're on a budget, you may want to rethink that. Hiring a DJ or simply asking a friend to act as a DJ is probably a better bet. It's very inexpensive to download the exact songs you want from Internet sites, plus you get to keep the music! Some music sites even have wedding reception mixes compiled, so all you have to do is download them (for a reasonable fee). Just be sure your DJ (professional or non-professional) has your music list ahead of time for things such as the first dance, father/daughter dance, garter toss and other events.
Music definitely plays an important part in your wedding and reception, but if you choose it wisely, it won't play an important part in breaking your budget.
