I’m in the middle of building an ADU behind my house in Los Angeles, and the inspection process is already stressing me out. The framing inspection got delayed twice because of small stuff I didn’t even know mattered. My contractor’s been helpful, but it still feels like there’s always one more surprise rule. For anyone who’s gone through this, how do you keep things running smoothly with city inspections? Any tips or lessons learned?
When I went through inspections for my prefab adu southern california, I totally get what you mean — it can feel like a maze. What helped me was staying super organized and scheduling inspections early, even before the next phase was fully ready. Inspectors actually appreciate that kind of communication. Also, make sure your contractor is familiar with LA codes, not just state rules. Mine wasn’t at first, and that caused a couple of re-checks. Another trick — keep a running checklist of what each inspection covers (foundation, plumbing, electrical, etc.) so nothing slips through. Once I started treating it like a project timeline, things moved way faster and smoother.
