PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR
PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR
It is not God's love towards man that casts out fear it is our love towards God which eliminates fear.
“Herein is OUR LOVE made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.” 1 Jn 4:17
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” 1 Jn 4:18
Those who commit sin should live in great fear of God! Jesus said so:
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Mat 10:28
When we are called by God, The fear of the LORD brings us to repentance and draws us to Jesus Our Saviour and LORD.
“And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” Job 28:28
“He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.” Proverbs 14:2
THE SCRIPTURES DEFINE HOW TO "LOVE GOD". "For this is the LOVE of God, that we keep His commandments." 1 John 5:3 RSV
"He who has my commandments and keeps them he it is who LOVES Me." John 14:21 RSV
"If you LOVE Me, you will keep My commandments." John 14:15 RSV
The word of God is clear. There can be no possible misunderstanding by those who are willing to hear the truth. The LOVE that God asks of us, is that we KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS!
The practical result of obedience to God's law is that we will finally overcome sin. It is this battle to conquer sin which tests our faith. James teaches that only those whose faith has been tested and approved will receive the crown of eternal) life. He wrote:
"Blessed is a man who preserves under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who LOVE Him." James 1:12 NAS
James is saying that those who are approved and receive the "crown of life" are those who LOVE the Lord; and Jesus said that those who LOVE Him are those who KEEP His commandments.
CAN YOU KEEP GOD'S COMMANDMENTS IF YOU ARE BREAKING THEM? “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18
If we never knowingly disobey His Commandments, and the blood of Jesus covers our sins of ignorance, then our perfect love casts out fear of the judgment of God.
1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
