I NEEDED MONEY
I can still remember that day in late January of 1984. I was sitting in my little blue pickup and looking at the tall, high-rise apartment building across the street. I had no reason to think they had an available job. I only knew that I was a switchboard operator, they had a 24-hour switchboard and I needed extra money so that I could pay my income taxes on April 15th
The economy was bad. I hadn't had a regular job for over a year. (My living was gleaned from baby-sitting and house-cleaning jobs.) As I sat in the truck, I prayed: "Father, if it is your will for me to work in that building, please make it possible." Then, I had that wonderful assurance and peace that comes as we rest in the Father's will for our lives.
That apartment building did not have an available job --but with God, all things are possible ...
Every switch-board operator, in that building, voluntarily agreed to a schedule change. All of them gave up some of their lunch and break time in exchange for fewer working hours so that I could have a part-time job!
I had the money to pay my taxes that year. I didn't find a gold coin in a fishes mouth. But, in God's mysterious way, he moved upon the hearts of those people and a job was created just for me.
