Class Information

 

ELA Grading Breakdown:

 

  There will be three grades on the report card:

 

       Reading

 

          Projects: 30%

          Tests: 25%

          Quizzes: 20%

          Literary Analyses: 15%

          Fluency: 10%

 

      Writing

 

            Essays/Stories: 30%

          Grammar Tests: 25%

          Grammar/Vocabulary Quizzes: 20%

          Spelling Quizzes: 15%

          Fluency: 10%

 

      Communication

 

          Public Speaking Presentations: 40%

          Listening & Speaking Assessments: 35%

          Participation: 15%

          Listening Skills: 10%

 

Materials:

 

   Homework Book

   Three Marble Copybooks

   One Folder

   Blue/Black Pens

   Red Pens

 

Testing:

 

    --All testing dates will be placed on the 8th grade calendar (Room 102).

    --Every Friday, the students will be tested on either Vocabulary or Spelling.

    --There will be a one week notice for both literature and grammar assessments.

    --Each assessment will be a thorough and challenging review using a wide array of testing

       techniques, including multiple choice sections, reading comprehension exercises, critical

       thinking short answer questions, and essay prompts. 

    --All tests under a 75 must be signed by a parent and returned the following day.

 

 Homework:

 

   --Homework for the entire week will be placed on the 8th grade HW page every

      Monday. (Room 101). 

   --Homework does count towards each student's overall ELA grade.

   --In order for homework to be accepted, it must be done neatly and in cursive.

   -- If work is incomplete, the student will receive a zero for that day.

 

Writing:

  

   --Writing is a large aspect of this class; therefore, there will be a minimum of two writing

      assignments per trimester.

   --Students will receive a thorough explanation of each assignment's formula and an array of

      writing samples to guide them through the process.

   --Students must have a parent edit/proofread their work before final submission.

   --Ten points will be deducted each day that the student's work is late.

 

 

Extra Help:

 

   --Extra help can be provided in the mornings or in the afternoons. 

   --An appointment for tutoring must be made at least one day prior to our meeting. 

 

RELIGION Grading Breakdown:

 

    

Projects: 30%         Students will be assigned one major project per trimester.

 

Tests: 25%                  Tests will be completed at the end of every textbook unit.

 

Quizzes: 20%              Quizzes will be completed for challenging chapters as well as on the

                                    monthly saints about which we study. 

 

Current Events: 20%   Students will be asked to research, write, and report religious events

                                    occurring around the world, both celebratory and troublesome. 

 

Homework: 5%        Homework will posted every Monday on the school website. 

                                   This will include Saint research and typed current events/written

                                   reflections.

Testing:

     --Quizzes will be completed on individual chapters, and will include True/False, Multiple Choice,

        Sentence Completion.

     --Tests will be complete on full units. Assessments will use a variety of techniques, include

       essay questions.
