Yet there is a controversy over this news report --even among Christians!

“QUESTION OF THE DAY: A 73- year-old veteran is fired from Cracker Barrel after giving a homeless man a muffin and some condiments. Although the employee knows he broke company policy, he still said it was the right thing to do.”

In situations like that, we cannot make judgments that favor the poor or old --but we must make righteous judgments according to the scriptures.

Titus 2:9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

Titus 2:10 NOT PURLOINING*, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. [To purloin is to be guilty of stealing; God said: “Thou shalt not steal" Exodus 20:15.]

According to the scriptures, the employee was in rebellion towards his employer, and God, when he gave the homeless man a muffin and some condiments against company policy. He was a thief who purloined his employer’s goods. (If he had such a generous heart, he could have given the man his money to buy food --or invited him to dinner that night at his home.)

Cracker Barrel cast out the man who did evil in the guise of good --and so will Jesus on judgment day. Christian, these words apply to you --not the heathen who are condemned already:

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. [The literal translation is “depart from me, ye that transgress the law.”]

Donna writes: Nabal, Abigail’s husband, had refused to give David’s servants needed supplies. David was filled with wrath and was shamefully ready to avenge himself. He had four hundred armed men ready to destroy Nabal and all that pertained to him. Abigal came to David with a gift of food to pacify David’s anger and for the defense of her husband and household.

Abigail did not steal.
