THE GODLY MOTHER’S GREATEST SORROW
“A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.” John 16:21
That pain has ended. The mother’s heart is filled with joy, and wonder, as she looks at her precious child with prayers for his immortality. However, the mother who has a rebellious child must endure the on-going suffering that comes from knowing her child is condemned to death.
DEATH FOR THE REBELLIOUS CHILD
In ancient Israel, the rebellious child was stoned to death. Under the New Covenant some rebellious children have a limited time of grace to repent and commit their lives to obey God. The children that remain obstinate will be punished for their sins and die the second death. “If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.” Deut 21:18-21
HOW TO HONOUR YOUR GODLY MOTHER
Exo 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Children sometimes give their mothers gifts such as: a special dinner, flowers, candy and things that they have made. Yet, we must remember that all those favors will soon be gone. Where is the child who will count the cost, and be willing to pay the price, for the gift that will give her everlasting joy? The child that truly honors his mother will also honor the Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. His obedient life gives honor to them all.
