“Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.” Exodus 35:3

“Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.” Exodus 35:3

Those words were for a temporary time and purpose. Otherwise, they would need the added clause: “Throughout your generations.”

We must obey the seventh-day Sabbath Commandment in accordance to the plain instructions of the scriptures and not upon false interpretations based on a solitary verse taken out of context.

In context, that instruction has nothing to do with cooking food, or keeping warm on the Sabbath Day. Our merciful Creator wants His people to remember His holy day as a delightful time --NOT THE DAY WHEN THEY SHIVER IN THE COLD AND ARE HUNGRY. *

Exodus 35:3 is about kindling fire, on the Sabbath Day, FOR FORGING METALS to build the tabernacle. That entire Chapter is about the plans and instructions for building the tabernacle. Our Creator was showing His people that they were not to do servile work on The Sabbath Day; not even to build the tabernacle.

* Here is a verse that is misunderstood because the word [today] was added by the translators.

“ … To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake [today] and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.” Exodus 16:23

Without the added word of the translators, it would read:

“ … To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.” Exodus 16:23

The miracle was that the uncooked manna that was kept over until the Sabbath did not breed worms!
From the 16th Chapter of Exodus, we learn that the LORD is not opposed to His people baking and seething manna on the Sabbath Day --but to their going out into the field to gather it.
