HOW THE SABBATH MUST BE OBSERVED

HOW THE SABBATH MUST BE OBSERVED

First, let us read the commandment and let it speak to our hearts as we apply it to the situations that arise in our lives:

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

Exodus 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Here the prophet Isaiah gives us further instructions on how
the Sabbath must be observed ...

"If you turn back your foot from the sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the sabbath a delight and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly;

then you shall take delight in the LORD, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." Isa 58:13-14 (RSV)

Nehemiah teaches us we must not buy or sell. So I don't go grocery shopping or to restaurants. etc.

Jesus was guiltless because His works were acts of mercy and were freely given. The priests were guiltless because their works were to serve God. The Sabbath Commandment forbids secular work on the seventh day for all men. "The sabbath was made for man"
