THE HIDDEN GIFT
This is the time of year when many people begin to think about exchanging gifts. That is really a form of barter; because, a true gift comes from a person who gives and expects nothing in return.
Nearly every day, Christians have an opportunity to give a hidden gift to someone; because, all we have to do is choose to give it. What's more, we can be sure that our wonderful hidden treasure will always be just right for the occasion.
These hidden gifts do not come in foil-wrapped packages with lovely cards; so they are seldom acknowledged, appreciated --or even recognized. It is so easy to overlook the gifts of sacrificial love! For only the giver, and God, know the suffering a person experiences when they put to death their selfishness.
Agape love is a self-denying kind of love like this:
"Love is patient, and love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not boast, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, love is not selfish, and love does not become angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is not happy with evil, but love is happy with the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. Love always trusts, always hopes, and always continues strong. Love never ends." 1 Cor 13:4-8
Yes, Agape love is a secret gift for all seasons. May we all choose to give it, Others may never say, "thank you" or even notice our greatest gift -- but The Father, which is in heaven, will see it and shall reward us openly.
