Have you ever seen the service medal quilts designed by Tom Korn from Salem, Oregon? Google it and you'll see his beautiful quilts. He was decorated with two medals for his service in Vietnam: the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal and received several ribbons at the Oregon State Fair for his quilts which were a copy of his medals.
As is the case with all military medals, each one is attached to a ribbon, and the ribbon has a specific design and color pattern indicating the military campaign with which it is associated. One day while looking at his medals, Korn had an inspiration. He decided to make a series of quilts using the designs and colors of the ribbons associated with military medals. He calls them his “ribbon quilts.”
Why not make one for that special veteran in your life? Just take a picture of his/her medals, figure out how big you want the quilt to be (just a wall hanging, throw, etc.) and we can draw up a pattern and quickly cut one out and put it together. If there is more than 1 medal, you can make a row for each medal or make them separately.
