Taliban Arsenal.txt -- 3k
TALIBAN ARSENAL It is difficult to procure reliable estimates on the Taliban's armament due to their disorganized nature. Most weapons listed are confirmed sightings from eyewhitness accounts and therefore may be incorrect. It has also been presumed that the Taliban are in possesion of ANSF/Soviet + Warsaw Weapons and limited amounts of Coalition Weaponary. Weapons with an astrix (*) next to them are weapons which are presumed to be in use due to their use in ANSF or similar factions. Weapons with the word 'Unlikley' mext to them are weapons the Taliban may operate, however they would likley operate very few. Lastly, 'Unconfirmed' are weapons which have been confirmed through Taliban propoganda, and therefore may not be accurate. WEAPON SYSTEMS (SMALL ARMS)
Assault Rifles/Carbines: ESTIMATED QUANTITY: =================================== >AK-47 Tens of Thousands >AKM Thousands >AK-74 Tens of Thousands >AKS-74U * Hundreds <= Thousands >AKMS * Hundreds <= Thousands >KBS wz. 1996 Beryl * Hundreds >M16A2 Hundreds <= Thousands >M4 Carbine (Unconfirmed) Hundreds <= Thousands >SKS Hundreds >M70 Hundreds <= Thousands >FN SCAR (Unconfirmed) One seen on Taliban propoganda photo. Credibility uncertain. Another seen in another Taliban photo. >Type 56 Assault rifle Thousands >AMD-65 Hundreds >FN FAL Hundreds
The Taliban mainly use AK-47s, AK-74s, Lee-Enfields, Mosin-Nagants, and old WWII relics, as well as various underslung grenade launchers. I would like to state again that I cannot say for certain wether or not the Taliban use weapon X, Y, and Z. These are all educated guesses/eyewhitness reports/News Articles/propoganda.
Captured Coalition vehicles are generally used until they break down, where they are then adbandoned/ destroyed. The Taliban lacks the capacity to maintain anything beyond a Land Rover, realistically. Civillian vehicles will be ommitted as a wide veriaty are used; namely trucks for transportation and terror attacks. It will be presumed that the Taliban possesses very little armour and very few Soviet-era vehicles.
MILITARY VEHICLES: =================================== >Various Humvees Two hundred seized in a single raid. Many used as SIVBIEDs or have other emplacments attatched. >M1117 (Unconfirmed) ? >M113 (Unconfirmed) ? >BTR-60 At least one.
HOW DO THE TALIBAN AQUIRE THEIR WEAPONS? =================================== The Taliban have a veriaty of methods to aquire arms, listed here:
>Captured from dead/surrendered/defected ANA/ISAP personel >Attacking checkpoints >Inside suppliers in the ANA >Defectors/Deserters >Pakistan, Iran >Potentially Eastern suppliers (Such as Russia) >Malitias >Extortion >Absorbing smaller malitia groups >Potentially from trading with other terrorist/malita groups (Such as the Tamil Tigers)
I apoligize if any of this is wrong, if you find a mistake or if you know of a weapon that the Taliban use, Contact me here: Totallynotaburner_12@Tutanota.com . (That is not sarcasm, this is my email for stuff like this)
