The Discipleship Team is for ONLY those who actually want to do
Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 35 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it." Mark 8:34-35
According to Jesus, ONLY those who give up their lives for his sake and for promoting the Good News will save them. The TV pledge (or whatever else you put before him) helps us to stop worshiping that activity that we put before meeting with Jesus, talking with him, and letting him teach us what He wants us to do and teach that day. We call this time with Jesus "Meeting with Jesus" or MWJ for short.
The "If No Jesus Then NO TV" Pledge means IF you can't make time to spend with Jesus then you won't make time to spend with the TV set. You don't break the pledge if you were so busy you didn't have your Meeting with Jesus but you ALSO didn't spend time with TV.
This pledge enables us to do the ONE thing that is more important than anything else, that is meeting with Jesus and letting him teach us what He wants us to do and teach that day. How can we follow him if we don't let him teach us daily (Matt 11:28-29)?
What are the one or two things you prioritize over spending time with Jesus? Maybe it's hobbies, video games, social media, or something else. If TV isn't it, then change your pledge to be "If No Jesus Then No ______".
Keeping this pledge will demonstrate to your spouse and children what you value the most. Talk is very cheap, but if they see you value time with Jesus before TV then they may actually consider that Jesus is worthy of their devotion also.
