Field Day
This is a Discussion Thread to coordinate our Field Day this year at Four Church Farm. All have read access to this thread. Ask webmaster for adding your user name if you want to participate in the thread.
Time to start planning for the annual FD effort at Four Churches Farm. Help is always needed for set up and tear down. Operators are needed to take turns at the rigs, and/or log.
Equipment is always needed for our stations on 40/80 CW, 80/40/20/15/10m SSB, etc.
Anyone wanting to give PSK/RTTY a try. Or 6m. should start planning now.
Our secret weapon on 80/40 CW ( an 80m horizontal loop at 70 ft) takes some work to get up but racks up the QSOs. Ditto The Swamp ( ie Brad/Kevins big white tent) which houses 3 stations at the west end of the grounds. And the hexx beam will make its presence felt on 20-15-10m.
All the new hams are welcome to participate, as are the not yet new hams. No license required to work the mic since licensed hams will be there too. Come and get your feet wet. You are a much needed resource to us.
More to follow as the date approaches.

I just woke up from a long afternoon nap and realized that Field Day is over! ( but strands of CQ Field Day are still ringing between my ears.)
Kudos on the well organized set up and dismantling of the stations and for all the ops that volunteered at the ssb and cw stations (2A this year). And for all those who lent moral support...and more!
It was fun to take part and see the energetic new blood making a ruckus on the bands. Looks like plenty of good experience was gained and that should pay dividends for FD 2011! And perhaps sooner ...like for the OQP in late August? ad/or The Ohio Parks on the Air.

Hello everyone, Field day is uppon us. I want to remind VE's to bring their Ids. We will have a test at 11:00 AM. Everything is starting to fall together. I could use an operator for a 10:45 to 12:00 slot while I am administering the Test. Eldon is working on getting a third networked laptop or computer. If any one has one that has current software and a network card please let me know before Friday at 10:00 am. I will see you out there at 9:00 AM if you are part of the Setup crew or want to help. 73 W8FD Rules!

FD: Im a new member and have a few questions about FD.
1. does each station bring along its on logging program or is there central logging? 2. 6m: I am interested in helping with the 6m station operation. Where would it be housed. What is the rig and antenna? 3. which bands and modes will the club be operating? 4. Do we have an emergency generator for the rigs or will we use commercial power? 5. I could also do some cw (use a bug, not a keyer.)
Im looking forward to seeing the Four Churches FD site and getting an idea of how you guys do things.Bob

Jack...I have a ten by ten quick pop up with one side cover. Also a big tarp for protecting two more sides if necessary. It big enough for one operating location. Ralph and I have the antennas covered I think. One inverted Vee for 80 on flag pole ( one we used before worked well) . One 160-6 meter OCD diplole also coming into main shelter for the two phone righs , and one hustler 40-10 m vertical which will be out by the RV hookups for the third (cw) station.. More antennas are cool backup ideas but dont go to extra effort. If anything we could use some kind of second antenna for the third (CW) station to use on 80 meters

I do not have a way to haul my grill, but I have one that is decent, not great. No tent here here. I do plan on spending as much of the 24hrs there as I can. I will brng my FT450 and mayby my tuner JUST IN CASE we need another rig and tuner.

Eldon, I have the FJP Software but we will need three computers. I like the idea of a portable shelter out away by the RV Hookup Area. Does any one have a Large tent? I have a 6 foot table or we could get an 8 Ft from our church if we have a big enough tent or RV Awning. I plan on bringing my car and it is equipt with 2, 6, 20, 15, 40 and 80 meter verticals which can be used as a back up or an alternate if we have a tent or an awning to put a Radio and tabels under.

Ok Eldon, W5UHQ Your keyer is a Bencher Right?
Does anyone have a grill that they can bring to the Field Day. The new one I have won't fit in our vehicles?
John, W8NM, DIRK Wiliamson passed his General so we don't have to set up a VE session for him for Field Day.

I intend on coming out, will not commit to bringing my rig, but I may be able to bring my FT450. My intent is to spend a lot of hours out, hopefully operating some and just having fun.

Hey Jack. Put me down for a shift on CW station. My new favorite mode. Also can do logging on cw if we have a laptop. I will bring my own key as used to it. Suggest other CW ops do the same. Eldon W5UHQ

Is anyone interested in setting up a fourth 6-2 meter station. It does not count toward our 3A count.

I will set up the N3FJP network logging software with two hard wire lans for shelter house and a wireless link for the remote station 3. So we can use two PCs/laptops with LAN connections and one with wireless. Eldon W5UHQ

I suggest we form teams for each of the three stations. Each team then could then do the planning for that rig. Ralph already has two antennas planned. One will be a 160-6 Off center fed dipole which will terminate in the shelter. Eldon has an 80 meter inverted vee which we used in the past suspended from the flag pole that rig could be in shelter as well. I suggest we we use a portable shelter for the third rig located down by the RV hook up area. That would provide a location for the 40-10 meter vertical and the third rig. That would allow some separation in case we end up working cw and ssb on same band. Lets start with rigs and let people sign up for helping set up one station. Eldon W5UHQ
I plan to bring the I-Com 706, Alinco power supply, MFJ tuner, 50ft coax, 40m dipole, dining canopy, bug spray, pen & paper for backup logging, pot luck. What have I forgotten?
We do need computers.
