Not Our Fight?
An interchange about expressing a passion worthy of the Times:

This is not necessarily what needs to be said, but it does give a hint of the fervor by which the things should be said should be said.

Even his passionate appeal won't make any difference. Today in the USA there is too much ignorance of economics, too much pandering to special interests, too much debt, too much non-discretionary spending that will not be touched (most of which is for seniors), too little eagerness to cut military spending (and too much business dependent on that spending), etc. etc.

Any real solution will bring out rabid dogs such as appeared in the halls of legislature in Wisconsin. Vested interests want everybody else's programs to be cut and everybody else to be taxed.

As soon as we allowed tax money to be raised and special interests to get their hands into the pot for transfers, entitlements, etc. the writing was probably on the wall. There is no political rescue in sight. Only a massive national repentance will have any effect, which requires God's providential control - and I'm not convinced that this is His plan.

John goes on...and on...

There is some realism to what you say. But let's weave the Gospel into this, as we are the privileged witnesses of it.

One of the major things I have been learning these last 10-25 years (and the excommunication is to be thanked for much of it) is the need to replace that missing part of the Gospel that got dropped out back in early 1800's. You've heard the rant before, maybe even seen this article about how Gospel & Son of God are so hugely political or legal as pertaining to Christ as King/Emperor.

Notice how Mark’s gospel begins: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (Mark 1:1). Remember in our last lesson that the word “gospel” in a Roman context spoke of the celebration and joy concerning news about the emperor. Therefore, Mark’s gospel opens declaring the beginning of the celebratory news of the emperor, Jesus, the divine. We must see how the apostles’ message was adversarial to the minds of imperial Rome. Tiberius declared himself to be emperor, son of Augustus, the divine one. Jesus declares Himself to be emperor or ruler, son of God, the divine one.

A year or two before the excom RCC did their Oct 31 Reformation Party theme on the Scottish Covenanters. The bitterest persecution 1680-1688 was partly because of the contrast between the faithful ministers, Richard Cameron & Donald Cargill, and the few unfaithful pastors that capitulated to the divine-right Stuart kings (they were allowed, indulged, to return to their preaching job and salaries if only they would not talk about Christ's crown-rights and challenge the kings claim that he was rightful lawgiver and judge in all matters in Church and State). Because the majority of Christians at the time took a neutral stand on the indulged ministers, the king was better able to paint the faithful few as rebels and subversives  that were just insanely resisting the the gracious offer of coming back in to law-abiding, acceptable society (in Church and State) and exercising religious freedom. All they had to do was just stop making such a big deal where the world and the devil are at that moment attacking; re: Jesus being the ethical authority over all things civil and ecclesiastical and owner of all persons, labor, and land.

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the Word of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Him. Where the battle rages there the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battle front besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

(Luther's Works Briefwechsel [Correspondence], vol. 3 pp. 81f.)
Cameron said, "No, This point is so important that all Christians are responsible to show their condemnation for such treason by admonishing those indulged ministers to repent and refusing to attend their preaching". The pastors who commissioned him from Holland prophesied (McWard):

"Richard, the publick standard of the Gospel is fallen in Scotland; and, if I know anything of the mind of the Lord, ye are called to undergo your trials before us, and go home and lift the fallen standard, and display it before the world.

Tracing the witness of Christ's church through American history between the Constitution and the Civil War I deduced that this is the crucial standard that is fallen down. In fact, the Constitution itself, was a capitulation to the Masonic Worldview (see Natural Law) right out of the Garden from Satan: what the laws should be are "self-evident"/ye shall be as gods knowing good and evil -- don't need no stinkin Revelation.

Thankfully, this is true. This privilege is reserved for the faithful Church. Whatever She says - Goes. If She says we should sign over the property rights of our infants to the Collective (SSA) so that minimum 150% of what God requires in tribute for their future productivity must be uploaded to the Broken Cisterns of the national civil govt (and all higher percentages any voter/legislature wants to extract in the future with no limits).....well, then - that has to OK, doesn't it? If She says the ownership of all money in the world is justified to the web of international central banks (by virtue of creating it or receiving it from Govt, the Owner of All), well then - the fiat currencies must be the blessed cost-reducer for our economy-stimulating low-interest-rate mortgages & credit cards (and cheap National Debt...Whee! let's drink ourselves sober!).

But if She turns and labels these as God's Word names them, and points out the lawless Mass-Murdering, Mass-Enslaving, and Mass-Stealing nature of our national leaders (and suffers thereby) -- then the surrounding society will believe them and be ruled by that Word to their great blessing, freedom, and prosperity. At least it always seems to have worked before. Turns out the Saints of the Most High actual DO rule (sometimes badly).

Today in the USA there is too much ignorance of economics,  Huge problem, Rushdoony emphasized this is one area Pastors study too little. What's wrong with trying to repair it?

too much pandering to special interests, All seek their own, but what if our own interests were discovered to be the interests of the Lord Jesus Christ. What if we sought first the KINGdom of God? What if we preached that Lex was Rex and both king and poor convict were all subject to His laws.

too much debt, Actually, when you study the dollar, and you discover there is no dollar, and hasn't been one for US citizens to use since 1933, nor the world since 1971, and there is no way to pay a debt can be paid with this kind of currency (all banks can do is say they owe, or say you owe) -- you discover that there really IS no debt. It is just a lie the people believe to mask the grand-theft of everyman plundering his neighbor.

too much non-discretionary spending that will not be touched (most of which is for seniors), Oh, it will be touched alright. It is not like you and the Stone are not going to encounter each other somehow. But it is going to be either you will fall on that stone - voluntarily, sooner, and be broken a little bit -- or -- it will fall on you later and crush you to powder. It is the old long-run saying, Following Christ cost more than anything else......except not following Christ. The money for Seniors is gone, and they can never get it back. There is no way, this day, that a SS or Medicare check goes out, except that it is stolen from dollar-account-holders (via inflation), or stolen from tax-payers (most of whom will never get future benefits - and know it and will involuntarily tell you most of the time the subject comes up).

too little eagerness to cut military spending (and too much business dependent on that spending), etc. etc. This is why Ron Paul could never get elected. He would have put so many people out or work among the military and defense contractors - just trying to get the US out of the foreign-domination business. Huge unemployment (fall on this stone), temporarily, leading to productivity (instead of destroying persons and property and wasting wealth for no benefit) later. Instead, as the nations increase their anger for our aggression in forcing our inflation-theft upon them -- I picture their anger peaking at about the same time our economic power implodes with the loss of faith in the imaginary money. One can't help thinking of the harlot of Revelation -- all the trucks and ships brought goods into the Great City -- but what was it that came out of the City in trade? Her main export - imaginary money. We will say we owe you. This is why the evidence for the destruction of World Trade Center Buildings in NY is so important to the appeal to this generation. It is past reasonable doubt, to anyone who has studied it, that the highest leaders in our land (banking, government, media, including Education) were either Capital Criminals, partners with them, or under the curse of capital perjury for justifying their actions and falsely accusing some largely-innocent Arabs.

Any real solution will bring out rabid dogs such as appeared in the halls of legislature in Wisconsin. But these outbreaks work in the Church's favor, in that they emphasize the evil, insanity, and unreasonable foolishness of their thinking and actions. Think of the last news-month (October 2013) of President/Congress saying and doing the stupidest things about budget and debt. While the USD lives, there will never be another budget or debt-ceiling or any year where the US economy can spare enough taxes to pay more than what the civil government is spending. We knew this deep-down in our hearts, already, but still, there is a perverse delight in watching the curtain come down and exposing the despicable "little man....behind" it -- at least for those few who are still able to - as we like to say, "do the math".

Vested interests want everybody else's programs to be cut and everybody else to be taxed.  Not everybody. Not Christians or any of the People of the Book. Instead, they want to return the wallet that was lost, corral/feed the donkeys and elephants that are lost (until their owners can return for them), and help up the helpless that are fallen down. They want to ignore the tax-protest, until they can be compliant with refusing dishonest gain themselves, and call for everyman to do like they do. No govt expenditure, no benefit offered unless it conforms to the Law of the King which is Rex. They want to follow the Westminster Larger Catechism in how it prisms-out the meaning of the Eighth Commandment:

 Q. 141-142. What ....required in the eighth commandment?

truth, faithfulness, and justice in contracts and commerce between man and man;[801] rendering to everyone his due; restitution of goods unlawfully detained from the right owners thereof;[802] giving and lending freely, according to our abilities, and the necessities of others;[806] a lawful calling,[807] and diligence in it;...811] and an endeavor, by all just and lawful means, to procure, preserve, and further the wealth and outward estate of others, as well as our own.[812]

...The sins forbidden:... besides the neglect of the duties required,[813] are, theft,[814] robbery,[815] man-stealing,[816] and receiving any thing that is stolen;[817] fraudulent dealing,[818] false weights and measures,[819] ... injustice and unfaithfulness in contracts between man and man,[821] or in matters of trust;[822] ... usury,[825] bribery,[826] ... unjust inclosures and depopulations;[828] ingrossing commodities to enhance the price;[829] ...and all other unjust or sinful ways of taking or withholding from our neighbour what belongs to him, or of enriching ourselves;[831] ...

As soon as we allowed tax money to be raised and special interests to get their hands into the pot for transfers, entitlements, etc. the writing was probably on the wall. This is true. But remember, right after the handwritingonthewall, God's covenant people moved on to the next wonderful chapter in the History of Redemption, they returned to the land and rebuilt the temple, the wall, and the city (all symbolic of human  beings). The Holy Spirit by the Word of God is doing the same thing today. It was very instructive to read Alexander Stephen's

A Compendium of the History of the United States from the Earliest Settlements to 1872

He details how the old Christian sense of laws-from-the-Bible (and, incidentally, from a culture where many young people memorized the Shorter Catechism) deteriorated to lodging ethical authority for law in the Will of the Majority. As soon as Congress was willing to justify robbing Peter to pay Paul under the label of "internal improvements", the group-ownership -- which always means extracting from many to benefit fewer -- began to grow. And the people "love it so" until it hurts too bad, but then it is too late.

There is no political rescue in sight.  Actually there is. In fact it is a Standing Rescue available anytime for anyone. It is called the Gospel. The Political Rescue of the Ages was accomplished in full sight of the Public, and recorded in a Book that has been the world-wide, best-selling volume every year since Mankind has keep records. It was accomplished under the Government-authorized Sign:

This is Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.
These things were not done in a corner, King Agrippa. Ya gotta remember, kingoftheJews means:

“And to Him was given dominion,
Glory and [k]a kingdom,
That all the peoples, nations and men of every [l]language
Might serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
Which will not pass away;
And His kingdom is one
Which will not be destroyed.

25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For He has put all things in subjection under His feet.

Only a massive national repentance will have any effect, which requires God's providential control - and I'm not convinced that this is His plan. Of course "national repentance" is an effect, not a cause - which you rightly brand by saying God sovereignly causes the repentance. And, with maybe the exception of Nineveh, nations never pull out of their dive, even though there are some glorious "swoops".  And even Nineveh was blasted 150 years later (see Nahum, is it?) to where nobody even stubbed their toe on the ruins for a couple a thousand years. It is true, His plan may not be reformation in the US for our grandkids. He might be done with us and is moving on to China, as the Gospel does the "world-around". Good, that gets us off the hook and we don't have to feel so bad about being partners with a thief. We can go ahead and take the benefits of cheap interest rates and subsidized health, education, and welfare in the comfort of knowing His plan is to destroy us thereby.

Or we can lift up the standard that has fallen down, refuse dishonest gain, and experiment whether God, in accordance with our keeping His laws, can take care of us better than such a tyranny as this, with all their wicked, anti-motivational, prosperity-smashing laws. And, after obedience, we can publish to our sister churches and to the society-at-large the Gospel like Richard Cameron did in his last sermon:

"But we are of the opinion that the church shall yet be more high and glorious, and the church shall have more power than ever she had before; and therefore we declare avowedly in opposition to all tyrannical magistrates over Protestants and over Presbyterians, magistrates that are open enemies to God. We declare we will have none such acknowledged as lawful magistrates over us; we will have none but such as are for the advancement of piety, and the suppression of impiety and wickedness. Let all the world say as they will, we have the Word of God for it. The work begun shall be carried on in spite of all opposition; our Lord shall be exalted on earth; and we do not question much but that he shall yet be exalted in Scotland. I assure you that we in Scotland have need to take heed to ourselves. I am very much afraid that we may even have done with good days in Scotland for all this. But let us stir up ourselves, and take hold of him by faith; for I assure you, if ye be not delivered, and made a free and purified people, we shall be no more a free corporation, nation, or embodied people, than the Jews are this day. I say not this to disquiet you, but to stir you up to take hold of Christ, and his standard on which it shall be written, ‘Let Christ Reign’. Let us study to have it set up amongst us. It is hard to tell, where it shall be first erected; but our Lord is to set up a standard, and oh that it may be carried to Scotland! When it is set up, it shall be carried through the nations; and it shall go to Rome, and the gates of Rome shall be burnt with fire. It is a standard that shall overthrow the throne of Britain, and all the thrones in Europe, that will not kiss the Son lest he be angry, and in his anger they perish from the way."[16]
