Hey folks! I’m torn between two options for my Galapagos trip: staying on one or two islands and taking day trips, or going on a cruise. Both sound amazing, but I want to maximize my chances of seeing unique wildlife without feeling like I’m constantly on the move. If you’ve been, what worked best for you?

Great question! I faced the same dilemma before my trip but ultimately chose a cruise—and I’m so glad I did. I booked with the Galapagos Catamaran and had the trip of a lifetime.
The main advantage of a cruise is access to islands you just can’t reach on day trips. On our itinerary, we visited Genovesa, which is a birdwatcher’s paradise, and Fernandina, where you can see penguins and flightless cormorants. The crew was incredibly organized, so the transitions between activities felt seamless, and I still had plenty of downtime to relax.
The catamaran itself was spacious but cozy, with a friendly group of fellow travelers. And let’s not forget the stargazing—being out on the water at night with zero light pollution was magical. If seeing rare species and unique landscapes is your priority, I’d say a cruise like this is unbeatable.
