Six Destinations Outdoor Lovers Should Visit In Dallas, TX

Dallas, TX,  may not be close to any mountains or the sea, but it doesn't stop the locals from enjoying the outdoors. This sunny city has 125 miles of paths for hikers and bikers and more than 22,000 acres of parkland for nature lovers to explore.

It is home to one of the country's enormous urban hardwood forests, the Great Trinity Forest. If you want to see its grandeur, a zip-line tour with Trinity Forest Aerial Adventure Park is a fantastic way to see it. You can also explore Trinity River Audubon Center on foot. Dallas will have something to offer you. Here are some outdoor spots you might want to visit:

Trinity River Audubon Center At Dallas, TX

Before this 120-acre nature preserve and environmental teaching center opened in 2008, the region was home to an illegal dumping site, proving the adage that "one man's garbage is another man's treasure."

Today, the center is ten miles south of the city's core and acts as a gateway to the Great Trinity Forest, a 6,000-acre urban hardwood forest that is the biggest in North America.

Five miles of hiking trails wind through woodlands, ponds, and prairies, providing views of the diverse wildlife. If you are still looking for something more spectacular, then the butterfly and discovery gardens, in addition to the pathways and picnic spaces, might be the key.

Dallas Arboretum And Botanical Garden

Located along White Rock Lake's shores, this 66-acre sanctuary boasts seasonal flowers and plant arrays and an 8-acre, interactive children's garden with everything from a two-story tree house and waterfalls to a treetop canopy walk. In addition to educational activities, the Arboretum is a lovely location for various events like art shows and seasonal festivals.

Klyde Warren Park In Dallas, TX

One of Dallas' favorite community meeting places, Klyde Warren Park, is a 5.2-acre linear park perched above a submerged freeway in the Dallas Arts District. It features a butterfly garden, designated areas for kids, pets, and fun games and activities.

Additionally, the park provides various year-round programs, like daily yoga classes, story times for kids, musical acts, and movie screenings. The Dallas skyline and the food trucks along the side are two other primary appeals.

Dallas Zoo

The 106-acre Dallas Zoo houses about 2000 animals and is the state's biggest and oldest zoological park. But it isn't just a typical walking animal exhibit because most cages mimic the animals' natural habitats. For example, the 11-acre Giants of the Savanna exhibit is the only zoo display in the United States where elephants and other animals coexist in the same environment. In addition, there is a children's zoo, daily animal shows, a carousel, and a model railway.

Heard Natural Science Museum And  Wildlife Sanctuary At Dallas, TX

This picturesque wildlife refuge and natural science museum will meet the needs of those seeking an ideal urban vacation. The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is a 289-acre wildlife preserve with 6.5 miles of nature paths, a recreation of a prairie community from the 1800s that includes eight playhouse-scale structures, live animal exhibitions, and a two-acre native plant garden.

Additionally, there is an indoor center for education with many exhibits, from a kid-friendly fossil dig to a display of venomous snakes.

Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve At Dallas, TX

Unlike what many may believe, Dallas' geography is not as flat as you may expect, at least not at the oasis of Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve. Located at 755 feet, the preserve's 9 miles of unpaved trails run through a rich landscape of local fauna and vegetation.

The best part is that numerous routes suit every outdoor traveler - whether a solo traveler or someone with their family or friends. In addition, you must hike up the Escarpment Trail to see a bird's eye view from the highest point in the area.
