I’ve noticed a lot of people asking whether ecommerce shopping carts are still essential in 2025, especially with all the new AI-driven buying experiences popping up. From what I’ve seen in real projects, shopping cart systems remain one of the most powerful and flexible tools for online sellers.
Modern ecommerce platforms have evolved far beyond simple “add to cart” buttons. Today’s ecommerce shopping carts handle everything from dynamic pricing and multi-step checkout flows to subscription logic and AI product suggestions. They’ve become miniature ecosystems that support marketing, logistics, personalization, and customer experience.
What I personally like most:
They integrate seamlessly with CRM, ERP, and marketing automation tools.
They help reduce checkout friction with one-page and express checkout options.
They give businesses complete control over product bundling, upsells, and discounts.
They are scalable — from small stores to enterprise-level marketplaces.
In short, until there’s a universal alternative that covers the same depth of features, ecommerce shopping carts will remain a backbone of online retail. Curious to hear others’ experiences — what features do you consider must-have in your shopping cart setup?
