Why do some coffee drinks always seem more popular than others?

I’ve been noticing that in offices and public places, certain coffee drinks always run out first, while others barely get touched. It made me wonder if it’s just about taste, or if there’s something else behind it—like habits or trends. Do people generally prefer the same types of coffee everywhere, or does it depend on the environment?

It’s mainly habit mixed with general taste preferences. People usually reach for something familiar and balanced, so drinks like cappuccinos or lattes go first without much thought. That’s pretty much how most popular coffee types end up forming in the first place, a few options naturally fit more people, while the rest stay occasional choices. Over time, this pattern becomes noticeable anywhere with shared machines, from offices to public spaces.

I’d also add that routine plays a bigger role than people expect. Once someone gets used to a certain drink, they rarely switch unless something pushes them to try something new. That’s why even with a wide selection, the same few options keep running out first.
