AR-games met geolocatie kunnen een stad op een praktische manier onderdeel maken van het spel. Spelers volgen digitale opdrachten, zoeken virtuele objecten en ontdekken daarbij pleinen, historische gebouwen of minder bekende plekken. Dat maakt een gewone stadswandeling interactiever zonder dat de fysieke omgeving haar betekenis verliest.
Ik heb zelf al een vergelijkbare combinatie van digitale spellen en verschillende spelgenres gezien op https://maxispin.net/. Vooral het idee dat digitale content op een vaste locatie wordt gekoppeld, vind ik interessant voor toeristische toepassingen. Met duidelijke routes en tijdelijke uitdagingen kan zo’n systeem bezoekers bovendien naar specifieke delen van een stad leiden.
Voor gemeenten en toeristische organisaties ligt de meerwaarde vooral in extra interactie. AR kan worden ingezet voor speurtochten, historische reconstructies, sportieve opdrachten of evenementen. De belangrijkste voorwaarden zijn een goede mobiele werking, betrouwbare geolocatie en content die daadwerkelijk aansluit bij de omgeving.
