Electronic components have transformed the way we live our lives as well as how we utilize technology since the first time they were added to products. They are utilized in nearly every industry, from consumer products to military equipment. From your vacuum cleaner to piloting a helicopter for military use electronic components are essential to the efficiency of thousands of items.
A component can be defined as the basic electronic element which has leads (terminals) that allow it to be linked to other components in order to create functional devices, based on the application in mind. Components can be classified into active and passive components. Batteries are classified as an active component since it is directly generating energy. Passive components are not able to introduce net energy to the circuit they are attached to. They only depend on the energy that is supplied by the circuit.
