My partner and I have been together for six years, and I've been thinking about proposing for a while now. The thing is, I really don't want to go the typical route — walk into a jewelry store, pick something off a display case, and call it a day. She's not that kind of person, and honestly neither am I. I want the ring to tell a story, to reflect something about us specifically. I had this idea of combining a heart-cut blue sapphire with marquise diamonds in a white gold setting, but I genuinely have no idea where you can actually make something like that from scratch. Is there even a place that will sit down with you, hear out your concept, and actually execute it properly? Or is "fully custom" just a marketing term most places use to mean "pick a preset and engrave a name"?

I totally get where you're coming from  been down that road myself before my own proposal. The "custom" label gets thrown around so loosely it's basically meaningless at most chain stores. What you're describing  actually starting from a concept and building the piece around it  is a different process entirely, and not every jeweler has the skill set or infrastructure for it.

What worked for me was finding a studio that does full bespoke design: you share your idea, they do concept sketches, move into 3D CAD modeling so you can see exactly what it'll look like before a single gram of gold is used, and then hand-craft the final piece. I used Olertis for my fiancée's ring  they specialize specifically in this kind of work, no off-the-shelf stuff at all. The artisans there genuinely treated my idea as the starting point, not an inconvenience. Here's their site if you want to look through what they've done https://olertis.com/

The heart-cut sapphire with marquise diamonds combination you described sounds absolutely stunning, by the way. That's exactly the kind of concept they'd run with.

This is exactly what I needed  thank you so much, the 3D modeling part especially gives me a lot more confidence going into it!
