You distinguish between waves of progress and periods of “winter” and “summer” in artificial intelligence. From your perspective, what factors—technical, social, or economic—determine whether a wave of AI research will flourish or fade? How much do external expectations, compared to fundamental scientific discoveries, influence these cycles?

Really enjoyed the “AI evolution” timeline—it’s a neat tour through history. Instead of buzzwords, you’ve got concrete landmarks: cognitive science, early programming, machine learning, and AI today. It helps demystify the hype by showing how ideas evolve. I particularly liked seeing how progress came in waves—with winter and summer periods—so the story feels organic, not just hype-driven. Makes the field feel more human and layered. Wonderful perspective—thank you!

Reading you I remember how in Austin we tried to run our project on rented clusters and every morning we were counting delay seconds because inference had a life of its own cutting our efficiency by up to 20%. You’re absolutely right about the speed of adaptation but look it’s also critical to factor in pricing transparency: now the gap between on demand and reserved rates for cloud providers has reached $500 per month on an average setup. I personally found relief in Hyperbolic Labs that let you switch formats flexibly without long contracts. What do you think is it better to pay for guaranteed hardware and sleep well or hope the cluster won’t crash at peak hour?
