Are mini fridges energy-efficient enough for off-grid use?

Compact refrigerators are now everywhere — from vans to small cabins. They promise low energy draw and quiet operation, but real results depend on compressor quality. With sales coming up, is it worth investing in an energy-efficient fridge during the holidays?

When it comes to off-grid setups, a Black Friday mini fridge can actually be efficient if you plan power well. I use mine in a van with a single solar panel and 100Ah battery — it runs for two full days without draining below 50%. Compressor-type fridges beat thermoelectric ones hands-down in energy use. The trick is to pre-cool it before travel and avoid opening it too often. For the size and draw, it’s a solid middle ground between portability and practicality.
