What We Want To Know About Our Bearings

We live in a world filled with technology, a world filled with things we didn't know could even be possible. Have you ever wondered how our vehicles run so smoothly, how our computers work so quietly and how everything, as time goes on, is virtually silent? This is because of the use of bearings. As technology progresses, so does our ability to adapt appliances and machinery. We want to make this better for the customer, and really the quieter something is, the better!

Bearings are essentially small pieces of mechanical tools that allow the internal parts of a machine to work properly. They will confine and separate various things inside the appliance that could cause damage, friction or prevent any movement to other internal parts.

SKF is one of the main suppliers of bearings and their products help run the majority of our everyday appliances in our home. From the cooker to the drawers and to the TV and the clock.

So bearings primarily make things move that bit better. A drawer uses a linear bearing, this is what allows the draw to slide straight out and back again in the same direction. A rotary bearing will allow rotation around one focus point, the best example I can use for this is obviously the wheel.

There are plenty different types of bearings that are used for a variety of purposes. These include the roller bearings, ball bearings, ball thrust, roller thrust and tapered roller thrust bearings. All of these have separate jobs and functions to the rest, making each individual bearing just as useful.
