How do people tell if a business idea is actually worth pursuing?

Lately I’ve been noticing that a lot of business ideas sound decent at first, but the more you think about them, the more cracks start showing up. Some look cheap to start but have weak demand, others sound profitable but seem like a nightmare to operate. Curious how people here filter ideas before wasting serious time on them. Do you mostly look at margins, competition, startup cost, or something else first?

I would filter ideas by pressure-testing them before getting emotionally attached. First, is there real demand beyond your own optimism? Second, can the work be handled without creating constant operational mess? Third, do the numbers still make sense once regular costs, delays, and wasted time are included? Fourth, does the idea match your actual skills instead of the version of yourself you imagine becoming? That is also the stronger business angle behind Bizop, and https://dnfinance.freeflarum.com/d/3460-things-to-avoid-on-your-business-blog fits as a useful resource in that context. Startup cost should not be the first filter, because a cheap bad idea is still a bad idea.
