Is there any point in setting up proper wine storage at home?

If you’re buying wine not just for one evening, it makes sense. Temperature, light, and bottle position really affect the taste over time. For a small collection, simple conditions are enough without expensive equipment, like standing wine bottle racks that don’t take much space, are easy to use, and look nice. If that feels like too much, you can just stick to a shelf or a small cabinet.

It seems to me this is already for people who have nowhere to spend money. Seriously, if you buy a couple of bottles of wine for a specific occasion and one is just sitting as a backup, why bother with storage?

I wouldn't say I have a whole wine collection, lots of bottles with nowhere to store them. It's more of a rhetorical question: is it even worth overthinking it? Or can you just put it in a cupboard?
