Security Guards or Technology for Site Protection?

Many construction sites now use cameras, alarms, and remote monitoring systems, yet security guards are still widely employed. For those who have managed site security, what has been more effective in preventing theft and vandalism? Do you prefer having guards present overnight, or can modern surveillance systems provide similar protection? What combination has worked best for you?

Having relied purely on high-tech surveillance systems in the past, I quickly learned their limitations when Wi-Fi cuts out or lenses get covered in dust. Thick dust and blind spots are constant issues on active builds. That is why a hybrid setup always works best. Use alarms for the perimeter fences, but keep at least one guard on site to verify alerts. When we partnered with an australian security company for our downtown project, their team managed the camera feeds while stationed at the main gate. It saved us thousands in potential tool theft.
