I've always wondered whether actually playing games like CS or Dota gives someone a real advantage when betting on esports.
On one hand, players who have spent hundreds or thousands of hours in a game probably understand things that casual viewers might miss:
Team strategies and communication.
Player roles and individual strengths.
How patches affect the meta.
Why certain teams perform better against specific opponents.
Small details that don't always appear in statistics.
On the other hand, being a fan of a game can also create bias. Sometimes people support a favorite team or player and ignore the facts when making predictions.
I recently read this article about using personal experience with games like CS and Dota to better understand esports betting and match analysis.
