Can Match Statistics Really Improve Football Betting Decisions?

There are now countless statistics available before a football match, including shots, possession, expected goals, corners and defensive records. Sometimes I feel that having too much information can be just as confusing as having too little. Which statistics do you actually consider useful when assessing a match? Are there numbers you deliberately ignore because they can be misleading without context? I would also like to know whether anyone has found a simple statistical approach that works better than trying to study everything.

I used to look at almost every statistic available and somehow ended up less confident than before. These days I mainly focus on recent xG, shots on target and home or away performance. Possession can be useful, but I don’t give it much weight on its own. Before I get started with a bet on a sport betting site, I also check injuries and likely lineups. Numbers make much more sense when you know what was happening in the matches behind them.
