We’ve been developing a niche online movie theater featuring independent films and TV series for two years now, and we’re simply shocked by how much targeted traffic is going to waste. We buy ads from bloggers and on public pages, and we’re getting great traffic to the site, but due to strict licensing restrictions from rights holders, we’re forced to block users from certain CIS and European countries right at the entrance. Plus, a lot of people sign up for a free trial, and then either auto-cancellation kicks in or they simply enter the so-called “cooling-off period” without signing up for a paid subscription. So last week, our arbitrage specialist suggested we test the ReTarget service - https://retarget.gg/ to at least partially recoup this unlicensed traffic using their script, which features an automatic Geo Popup on the landing page and a Decline Popup when a subscription is canceled. We implemented the code, set up the API connections, and now the system automatically selects and rotates relevant affiliate offers based on the blocked user’s location. The numbers have really improved—we’re making a little money from those sessions that used to be a pure loss. But I’m really worried about the legal and ethical aspects of this. Guys, for those of you who’ve already optimized monetization for churn users in the OTT or streaming space, how’s your retention holding up? And what’s the best approach right now in advertiser settings—should we go all-in on CPA with a fixed payout per registration, or set an eCPM and work based on impression volume? Thanks in advance for your help and advice!
