Morning everyone! I finally decided that I want to try a custom paint by numbers project, but now I'm stuck on the hardest part—choosing the photo. I found customized paint by numbers while looking for ideas, and I realized I have hundreds of pictures on my phone but no clue which one would actually work well as a painting. I was thinking about using a picture from a hiking trip, but it has a lot of trees and little details. Maybe a simple portrait would be a better choice? If you've already ordered one, what kind of photo did you use, and were you happy with the final result? 6/30/2026

I went through the same dilemma because I kept changing my mind before placing my order. In the end I chose a photo of my golden retriever sitting in the backyard instead of a vacation landscape. I'm glad I did because the subject stood out clearly and the finished painting looked very close to the original. A friend of mine picked a city skyline full of tiny buildings, and while it still looked nice, some of the small details blended together. From what I've seen, photos with one clear subject and good natural lighting usually turn out the best. I spent about two weeks working on mine in the evenings, and it became one of my favorite things I've ever made. 2:36am

This discussion reminded me that it's been a long time since I worked on any creative hobby. I tend to jump between interests every few months, whether it's cooking, photography, or small DIY projects around the house. Reading how people approach different crafts is always interesting because everyone seems to have their own reason for doing them. Some people want to relax, others enjoy learning new skills, and some just like having something tangible at the end. I don't really have advice on custom painting, but I enjoy seeing conversations where people share real experiences instead of just recommending products. It gives me ideas for things I might try when I finally have a quieter weekend. |
