What helped me most was thinking about the day as a whole rather than trying to predict every single dish in advance. I could plan the parts I controlled, write down questions for my care team, and leave some flexibility for the actual gathering. Before one family holiday, I used a holiday food guide for type 1 diabetics as a reference while thinking through meals and the changes in routine. That gave me a clearer starting point without making the event feel overly rigid. I still made personal treatment decisions with guidance from my clinicians, but the preparation meant I arrived with fewer uncertainties. The holiday felt much more like a normal family day afterward.
